Dentist versus Boredom: A Journey of Professional Satisfaction
As a 1979 graduate of the University of Tennessee Dental School, after practicing dentistry for 17 years, I, like many colleagues, found the traditional dentistry that is taught in school was failing to meet the needs of my practice. Most dentistry seemed to be replacing failing restorations from previous treatments. What could keep the replacement dentistry from future failures? On a quest for professional satisfaction and to curb boredom in the field, I set out to answer this very question. As I began this journey in 1996, the theme of “less is better than more” emerged. I wanted to preserve more healthy tooth structure. It has been a long journey but here is the short story of how I arrived at the Alleman-Deliperi Center.
To effectively do less and better dentistry, a dentist must enter the world of bonding and be very good at it. The first stop in my journey for better bonding was air abrasion in 1996 with Crystal Mark. I needed to maximize my bond with a cleaned bondable surface and at the same time increase the effective surface area. With air abrasion and resin coating as taught by Dr. Raymond Bertolotti, I found my composite restoration sensitivity go to near zero. I was making progress towards my goal.
The second step in my journey was CEREC. To maximize bond strength, I knew I must minimize the bond stress. I entered the world of CEREC 2 in 1998. After all, CEREC is nothing more than a composite with a large macro particle sitting on top of a composite. When the tooth volume lost is significant, CEREC allowed me to minimize the bond stress and keep more healthy tooth structure. With CEREC and the near zero sensitivity, I found a tremendous drop in the need for post-opt endodontic treatment. Unlike traditional crowns, I also found that gingival inflammation was eliminated.
I am now at a third major point in my journey to achieve “less is better than more” dentistry. I was introduced to the Alleman-Deliperi Center by Dr. James Erpenbach in 2017. Here, I have learned new techniques to improve the bond strength and minimize the bond stress. All of these “new” techniques are supported by research. With this new information, I foresee that CEREC will become less significant. One contributing factor to this is that the Alleman-Deliperi Center teaches Stress Reduced Direct Composites (SRDC) which rivals the strength of natural tooth structure and allows dentists to preserve even more healthy tooth structure than CEREC. Another reason SRDC rivals and in my opinion is better than CEREC is because CEREC is not cheap. Your lab bill has simply changed to a fixed loan payment. CEREC is a developing technology requiring upgrades every few years and new trainings. My purchases have been significant including going from CEREC 2 to CEREC 3 (Red Cam) then to Blue Cam and Omni Cam along with 3 milling units and 1 rebuilds. I am now questioning if I will even get another CEREC when Sirona is requiring upgrading. It seems the return on investment has been greatly reduced.
Thank you Dr. Alleman and Dr. Deliperi. The hardest part of my journey has been unlearning the traditional dentistry taught in school. The Alleman-Deliperi Center has made me a better dentist and less dependent on my CEREC. With air abrasion and SRDC, my journey continues without the evils of boredom and dissatisfaction. This September I had the opportunity to attend the biomimetic course in Cagliari Italy. What a wonderful experience. I spent the week with a group of incredible dentists and associates who are leading the pack in biomimetic training. The combination of teachers, material, facility left nothing to be desired.
Dr. Deliperi and Dr. Allemon combined their talents and intense desire to teach us more about biomimetic techniques. I was ready to learn and they didn’t disapppoint.
The latest scientific literature makes it clear that we need to modify our restorative procedures from the ways of Dr. Black. The advances in adhesive dentistry make is possible to preserve more natural tooth structure than ever before. Now is the time to join this group and make changes in your practice. I have and it’s been so rewarding to speak with patients about biomimetics.
My patients are very interested when I explain how we can now save more tooth structure and provide more long lasting restorations. I encourage anyone to learn as much as you can about biomimetics. Thank you Simone and Dave. Dr William F. Proffitt, Maryville, TN, Usa
Just when I thought I was practicing dentistry at the highest level, I discovered what feels like a secret door to an entirely new level of dentistry, where everything finally makes sense and many new things have become possible. Welcome to the world of Biomimetic Dentistry. I have had the privilege of being taught these principles by the masters themselves… Dr. David Alleman and Dr. Simone Deliperi, and being certified as an instructor in these techniques through their course in Sardinia. This was the best decision I could have made. The investment had already paid for itself many times over within the first few months of incorporating the biomimetic teachings into my practice, and my patients are very receptive and appreciate my conservative techniques and recognize my newly inspired passion for dentistry. There is no going back. Let’s embrace Biomimetic Dentistry and keep moving our profession forward.
If you are serious about your journey to the top in Biomimetic Dentistry, then the Accreditation Course is a must to further your knowledge. As you are exposed to the most current world wide research and techniques, you have an opportunity to share knowledge with others on an international scale. I found this interaction and camaraderie to be most valuable in being exposed to a higher standard of care. This is learning and sharing at it’s finest. Take advantage of this opportunity to expand your knowledge while enjoying like minded people and commit to this course. The hospitality and beauty of Sardinia will make this a highlight of any dental career. You, your practice and patients will all benefit. Thank you to both Simone and David for this opportunity to learn and grow.
This course will give you a great understanding of what biomimetic dentistry is all about. The excellent live patient demonstrations by Dr Simone shows you what is possible in the world of dentistry today. The hands-on reinforces the knowledge and gives you the confidence to be able to replicate what is being taught. An excellent and intense course
After almost 30 years of practice, I found my passion for Dentistry again.

There is a point in everyone’s career that you feel very comfortable and proficient in your abilities to deliver the correct product. I Believe this is the precise moment when you need to retool and reassess and possibly get more training to deliver the best results possible. Biomimetic dentistry brought me to this realization and I decided to further my understanding. That’s when I decided to take courses with Dr. David Alleman and Simone Deliperi. I am grateful to both.New York
The teaching conference in Sardinia was life-changing for my practice. Drs Deliperi and Alleman through clinical demonstrations and literature review reinforced biomimetic principles extremely effectively. I highly recommend this course!New York
