Biomimetic Dentistry

“Biomimetic dentistry is a type of tooth-conserving dentistry which treats weak, fractured, and decayed teeth in a way that keeps them strong and seals them from bacterial invasion”.

The resulting Biomimetic restorations are also known as “Life-like” restorations. The goal of these restorations is to adopt protocols able to maximize the bond and minimize the stress of the shrinking composite resin in an attempt to mimic the functional and optical characteristics of the intact natural tooth.

The benefits of Biomimetic Dentistry are:

1-conservation of both sound tooth structure and pulp vitality;
2-avoid the formation of secondary caries;
3-reproduce the shade and texture of natural teeth;
4-mimic the micro-movements of the natural tooth during function thus avoiding the development
of either cracks into dentin or cuspal deflection which may be responsible for tooth sensitivity;
5-avoid catastrophic failures from masticatory crushing forces

The biomimetic treatments include:

1-The Deliperi’s protocols for stress-reduced direct composite:
a- anterior composites
b- posterior composites
c- fiber-reinforced composites
2- Inlay/Onlay restorations
3- Porcelain laminate veneers
4- Perio-biomimetics
5- Perio-ortho-biomimetics
6- Implant-biomimetics
